seb brun | materials
French drummer, composer and producer Seb Brun presents Materials, the second album of his solo project Ar Ker, following its 2020 debut.
Founder of the influential Carton Records and leader of the avant-rock and rough techno project Parquet, Brun has spent over twenty years developing a unique practice at the intersection of acoustic percussion and electronic sound.
Materials unfolds as one continuous composition in three movements, each centred on a different material: maple wood, bronze and copper. Through drums, cymbals, feedback, modular synthesis and saturation, the album explores the transformation of physical matter into sound, creating an immersive work where acoustic gesture and electronics become inseparable.
Entirely performed live using an augmented drum kit equipped with piezos, transducers and modular synthesizers, Materials combines raw physical performance with electroacoustic experimentation. Its live adaptation expands the experience through an audio-reactive lighting system, turning the performance into an immersive audiovisual environment.
With Ar Ker, Seb Brun develops a ritualistic and uncompromising musical language that blends the physical intensity of percussion with experimental electronics. His work investigates repetition, distortion, accumulation and the materiality of sound while placing the body at the centre of performance. Rather than seeking precision or control, Brun embraces instability and transformation, inviting listeners into a constantly evolving sonic landscape where sound resists expectation and perception itself is continuously challenged.
