Italian experimental trio She’s Analog returns with their sophomore album, No Longer, Not Yet, a joint release from Carton Records and Torto Editions. According to the press release, It is an “instant film” that pretentiously tries to stop movement. The title refers to a zone of transit, in which everything unfolds and blooms. This space isn’t interpreted as exclusively musical; instead it represents that liminal space in which we move and create, both detaching from what we leave behind, and being open to what could happen in the future.

The sounds and music contained in these 40 minutes, embody the relentless and vital movement that feeds the band’s energy: tapes and field recordings give a perception of life flowing (“slow, kick”), as so do the sounds that transition from one piece to another (“tangled”). Together with echoes of lyrical and dramatic melodies (“narrow pass”), all these elements convey a sense of instability, as if everything could suddenly collapse, stand still, or possibly move forward.

The whole record was conceived through a meticulous work of juxtaposition and sound collage, which has strongly influenced (and reversed) the band’s compositional practice. This technique fostered an open dialog between the sonic worlds mentioned above, resulting in a broader compositional form, where sonic materials exist even after they occur, like an invisible wire tying all these elements together.
